$230 million earmarked for rail work in Mississippi

Federal funding for railroad improvements has been earmarked for the Magnolia state.

The Federal Railroad Administration has announced that $230 million will go towards two major projects, including one in South Mississippi.

More than $178 million is set aside for the Gulf Coast Corridor Improvement project as passenger service is set to resume here in South Mississippi within the next year.

The money will go towards track, signaling, and station upgrades, and help maintain freight operations on this line as well.

The rest of the money will go to rail restoration work in the town of Gloster in the southwest corner of the state.

This funding comes from the infrastructure law signed by President Biden two years ago.
