22nd Naval Construction Regiment Change of Command Ceremony
Commodore Kemit W. Spears not only relinquished command of the 22nd Naval Construction Regiment today, he also called it a career.
Spears, who served as commanding officer for more than two years, is succeeded by Captain Angel L. Santiago.
In a double-duty ceremony, the Seabees also held a retirement for Spears, who has spent more than 27 years in the Navy.
Spears, who served as CO of NMBC1 from 2014 to 2016, returned to Gulfport in 2020 to take the command at the Naval Construction regiment. “It’s amazing, there’s more emotions than you can describe. I’m overwhelmed with the people I’ve gotten to serve with, the memories of families and friends and sailors overwhelm you, and there’s so many amazing things that have happened over the years, it just floods over you.”
Retiring from the Navy after 27 years isn’t easy, but Captain Spears is looking forward to spending more time with his family.
