21st Annual Carl Legett Fishing Tournament Takes Place this Weekend

Today marked the first day of the 21st annual Carl Legett Fishing Tournament. The Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi was filled with fishermen of all ages and families around the Gulf Coast.
Fish of all different shapes and sizes took over the Point Cadet Marina in Biloxi today as part of the 21st annual Carl Legett Fishing Tournament. Kids and experienced fishermen were welcome to head out in the water and participate. At 7 p.m., the fish that weighed the most came in at over 50 pounds.
Trey Moore, participant in the tournament, said, “We’re really happy with the black drum. The black drum was 51 pounds so we feel pretty good about that. We’re gonna see if we can find a bigger red fish tomorrow but 26 pounds isn’t a bad place to start.”
Second Weigh Master Shelby Braun said, “The fish that are caught, they can weigh them and they can choose to take them back and take them with them. Or they can donate them to the tournament and they’ll go in the fish boxes and they’ll be on ice and we’ll decide what we’ll do with them after the tournament. We’re thinking about filleting them and donating them this year.”
The boats line up at the Point Cadet Marina and then they bring their fish up to the weighing station to see if their fish could win first place. “We have kayaks. We have coolers. We have GPS’. We have fishing rods, life jackets, anything you would need on a boat. Our grand prize finale will be a kayak and a tackle bag and just a fishing pole and everything you would need to go on a fishing trip,” said Braun.
Fishing isn’t the only thing going on at this tournament. A bikini contest will be held on Saturday and fishermen are also excited about the big dinner on Sunday.
The prize for the biggest fish will be handed out on Sunday around 6 p.m.
