PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (WXXV) — A fully involved house fire left one person dead in Harrison County late Tuesday.
According to Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan, it happened on Vidalia Road near Oak Street in Pass Christian.
Neighbors say crews got to the location around 6 p-m and believe the fire was coming from trailers located somewhere in the wooded area.
Crews from the Diamondhead Fire Department, Harrison County Fire Services and Pass Christian Fire Department all responded to the scene.
One Harrison County firefighter was injured during the rescue and sent to the hospital.
Chief Sullivan says it was a dangerous mission for those involved.
“We were having difficulty getting through the things that were in the room. There were things that had fallen over. Fire was actually coming through the walls and over their head at this point,” Sullivan said.
“They risked their lives on this fire trying to save this gentleman. This was one of the most extreme rescue attempts we’ve been involved in. There was heavy fire in the room. The firefighters were doing everything they could to keep the fire off of themselves and the victim. It was a heroic effort.”
