Eight staff members at one school in the Jackson County School District have tested positive for COVID-19 over the past few days.
District Superintendent John Strycker tells News 25 the cases are from employees at St. Martin North Elementary and one student has tested positive there this week as well.
Strycker and school administrators have been in contact with each of the employees who tested positive and are notifying those who may have come in contact with them.
As they move forward through the rest of the week, the superintendent says the safety of the students at the school will be the top priority. “The staff has done an excellent job of going on, but is it business as usual all day? No, we’re escalating our situation to the point where we’re keeping a close eye and taking further precautions.”
While there has been only one reported student case in the district this week, Strycker expects that number to rise slightly once they receive updated numbers tomorrow.
