Employees of Keesler Federal Credit Union spent their entire day delivering school supplies to benefit local kindergartners.
For the second year in a row, Keesler Federal Credit Union is making sure kindergartners have all the tools they need to succeed as school begins. President/CEO Andy Swoger said, “This is a community giveback to try and lighten the load a little bit on our community.”
‘Backpacks for Bright Futures’ impacts over 6,700 kids in 16 school districts across six South Mississippi counties. Each kindergartner in each district will receive a backpack with a wide range of supplies, including hand sanitizer. “These kids all start from the same point and it really gives them the opportunity to be equal with one another.”
Keesler Federal employees volunteered throughout the day to load the backpacks into school buses and trucks. Volunteer Sylvia Hanes hopes these supplies provide much needed relief for parents amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “They’ll just go to the schools and they’ll have it ready. So, we couldn’t have had a better set up to get students taken care of this year.”
With year two in the books, Keesler officials hope to continue this community giveback in the years ahead. “This is an opportunity to give back. Without these communities, we don’t exist. Without the members, we don’t exist. So, this is all about us giving back to the community.”
