Independence Day could shape up to be the biggest road trip event of the year.
Travel data company Arrivalist predicts more than 36 million Americans will hit the road Fourth of July weekend, that’s about 11 percent less than last year’s prediction.
During the holiday weekend in 2019, the American Automobile Association predicted 41 million travelers. The coronavirus pandemic is also expected to slow down travel for the entire summer.
AAA says Americans will take 700 million trips in July, August, and September, that’s 120 million fewer than last year.
The decline is mostly because of reduced air, bus, rail, and cruise travel.
