Local volunteers help with flooding

The Red Cross has sent more than 80 volunteers to help combat the effects of the disastrous flooding. Most of the volunteers who are currently helping are from the Coast.

The Red Cross is focusing on their shelters in Jackson and Starkville and they have six more shelters on stand-by ready to go. John McFarland with the American Red Cross said, “So sheltering and feeding is a big part of what we do. Damage assessment, going back in as the water goes down, and look at the damage at the homes that are there so we can see if there is any other assistance that they are going to need, case work. We also have health and mental health professionals who volunteer their time with us who are up there because people are going through the worst days of their lives.”
