Overshadowed by Valentine’s Day this year, Arbor Day is recognized on the second Friday in February. The City of Ocean Springs is spreading the love by giving away over 200 oak trees.
The city has partnered with the Mississippi Forestry Commission to give away hundreds of trees to Ocean Springs residents. The giveaway will take place at City Hall and it is a first come, first serve event.
There will be a limit of two trees per household. Ocean Springs Mayor Shea Dobson said, “I know people who may have some areas in the yards that they want to get some shade in and get a nice tree. We just want to do something good for Valentine’s Day and to show the community we appreciate them.”
The tree giveaway will start at 9 a.m. on Friday in front of the city hall building. The giveaway will continue until the last tree is gone.
