According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 170 million doses of the flu vaccine have been distributed so far this season.

The CDC says that once you receive the flu vaccine, antibodies that provide protection develop in the body about 2 weeks after vaccination.

Flu vaccination reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine. Flu vaccination has been shown in several studies to reduce severity of illness in people who get vaccinated but still get sick.
