In just a few days, a new Miss America will be crowned.
After working hard all year on community service projects, promoting platforms and prepping for the big week, the ladies enjoyed a little down time at Universal Studios Hollywood. They got to meet Transformers, spend time at the Chocolate Emporium, and soak up the sun at the beach.
Miss Mississippi Mary Margaret Hyer says the next Miss America should be a role model who leads by example.
She says her hard work and willingness to follow her dreams is something she hopes inspires others. “I’ve always looked up to Miss America. I think that mentoring and being a role model is so important. It’s important for young women and young men to have role models to look up to. I think I am a good example of someone who is hardworking, who wants to shatter glass ceilings, and somebody who has always gone for their dreams and wants to inspire others to do the same.”
Preliminary competition begins Sunday and Monday. The finals will be next Thursday, December 19th at 7 p.m. on WXXV NBC.
