Last week began a month long initiative for men and women to forgo shaving or grooming and grow out their hair for an entire 30 days.
But ‘No Shave November’ is not just about creating a scruffy look, it’s about starting conversations and bringing awareness to cancer.
Many cancer patients lose their hair during treatment so all month long you’re encouraged to instead donate the money you’d typically spend on shaving to help in cancer research.
Right now, Jackson, Mississippi hosts their ‘Battle of the Beards’ fundraiser and Courtney Anderson with the American Cancer Society hopes the Coast will soon follow suit. “With hope and passion alone, we need fundraiser. People spend so much on their looks, their appearance with razors, all kind of stuff. If we just take a couple months out of our time and have fun and save lives and make the people suffering experience joy while going through this at least.”
If you would like to give back during ‘No Shave November’ you can contact anyone in the local American Cancer Society chapter.
