Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann along with local leaders presented a check for nearly 12 million dollars to the Department of Marine Resources today to help fund projects along the Coast.
DMR received $11.7 million as part of the Tidelands Turnback Trust fund. Public access projects funded include improvements to the Long Beach Harbor, building restorations at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, and Shepard State Park upgrades among many others.
Hosemann and DMR Director Joe Spraggins say the fund provides a big benefit for both residents and natural attractions across the Mississippi Coast. Hosemann said, “All the things you see Department of Marine Resources do comes out of these checks, and so we basically kept that money here to run the assets of the Gulf Coast.”
Spraggins said, “This means there’ll be a lot more projects being able to be done. They’ll be things that they can have better access to. We’ll continue to be able to serve them as Department of Marine resources.”
DMR received $10 million from this fund in 2018.
