This weekend is the second annual Harrison County Sheriff’s Office Youth Fishing Rodeo.
Saturday, kids ages three to 15 will learn the basics of fishing with experienced fishermen volunteering at the event.
The rodeo will also celebrate a new fishing pier at the property, built by the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance and Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation.
The fishing rodeo kicks off with a ribbon cutting tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. followed by fishing until noon at 14572 County Farm Road in Gulfport. Warden Evan Hubbard said, “The youth fishing rodeo was the idea of Sheriff Troy Peterson to try and get the kids to enjoy the environment. Get them off the couch and away from the electronic devices. It’s also a good opportunity for local law enforcement to interact with the community and doing something that everybody loves to do which is fishing and enjoying the outdoors.”
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office says they have 300 young fishermen already signed up. You can also sign up on site the morning of the event.
