In the early 70s, the catchy songs and dance of ‘School House Rock’ captured children’s attention while teaching valuable lessons like how a bill becomes law or is ‘Just a Bill’ and helping kids learn the preamble.
Fast forward to 2019, the Walter Anderson Theatre Project announced its brand new youth division: ‘Rising Stars.’ They will perform ‘School House Rock Live’ this weekend.
‘Rising Stars’ Youth Director Anthony Starcher says it has been a lot of hard work, but he’s excited to premiere the show to the community. “The program is designed to educate our young children from design to acting, singing, musicians, piano, all of that, and these kids have been working really, really hard on this production. They’ve had a lot of things thrown at them, they’re very adaptable. I’m just really thrilled and proud of them.”
The show is all weekend at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center. Show times Friday and Saturday are at 7:30 and then 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are on sale at the door.
