This weekend will be dedicated to visiting, cherishing, and celebrating our senior citizens who live at nursing homes on the Coast for ‘Adopt a Grandparent Day.’
Sixty percent of residents at nursing homes do not receive visitors. On Saturday, volunteers at 35 locations in six different counties will spend time with our seniors on the Coast. Activities will include trivia, arts and crafts, games, selfies, and so much more.
Founder and Board President of ‘Adopt a Grandparent Day’ Kathy Rogers was inspired by the fact her mother spent 30 days inside a nursing home and she saw firsthand how lonely the residents are.
“They needed visitors. That just broke our hearts and that was the motivating factor to begin ‘Adopt a Grandparent Day.’ It changes our lives. It changes the lives of the residents and it is worth the time that it takes,” Rogers said.
Tomorrow is the last day to sign up to volunteer. There is still availability at some facilities in Lucedale. To register visit adoptagrandparentday.org.
