This month, the late, great artist Walter Anderson would have been 116 years old and of course the Walter Anderson Museum in Ocean Springs is celebrating in a major way.
The celebration is all month long with a highlight on the 20th and 21st of September. That is Walter Anderson Weekend and it features two concerts by Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi All-Stars.
Dickinson’s performance spotlights the Ocean Springs Community Center murals. You can catch his performance Friday the 20th and Sunday the 22nd.
On Saturday, there is a Walter Anderson Block Party from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free admission throughout the weekend.
Executive Director Julian Rankin says they look forward to this event all year long. “This is an early birthday party for Walter Anderson. It’s a way for us to celebrate the way he celebrated family and that’s through Shearwater pottery and all the Anderson creators and artists. So, we want the public to come out and celebrate creativity with us and have a good time.”
