Crews set sail this weekend at the Pass Christian Yacht Club for a unique sailing event.
The 82nd Knost All-Ladies Championship Regatta took place over the weekend on the Mississippi Sound near Pass Christian.
Yacht clubs from across the entire Gulf Coast competed in the event which featured races in two different classes of boats. The regatta features female skipperettes on the boats and virtually all female crews.
Regatta Chair Jo Ann Francingues encourages more women to take up the sport of sailing. “Well I just encourage all women, girls, take a sailing course, get involved. You don’t have to have a boat, you can rent them or if your club has them you can use them and just bear in mind, it’s not a contact sport.”
The first edition of the regatta took place in 1938.
