Even when it comes to the most talented Minor League baseball players, prospect growth is never linear. Sometimes demotions happen, but despite the obvious setback, the Shuckers faithful are more than happy to welcome Corey Ray back to Biloxi.
Today, the Milwaukee Brewers optioned the 2018 Southern League Player of the Year down from AAA San Antonio to the AA affiliate on the Gulf Coast.
Through 25 games this season, Ray is hitting just .178 with three home runs and eight RBI and continues to battle the injury bug, having already made two separate trips to the injured list.
It’s a staggering comparison to his 2018 campaign which saw the former first round pick bat .239 to go along with 27 home runs, 74 RBI, and 37 stolen bases.
Maybe he’ll be able to rediscover some of that same magic in Biloxi.
