The Biloxi Fire Department debuted new technology for their fire boat.
The Flir System was recently installed for Biloxi’s newest boat the Serena G. The Flir is a state-of-the-art sonar system that can detect heat signatures. The system can read into the water and through other various conditions such as rain or fog and will be vital for search and rescue missions.
While the new technology will help immensely on the water Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney says that the Flir System will assist in keeping their firefighters safe when fighting fires. “That boat will come and it will sit back and watch all of our people in case one of our people falls off a pier or a boat, they can detect that. As well as telling them whether their attack is working on the fire or not.”
Chief Boney says the fire department’s Flir System is a first on the Gulf Coast and he expects to see more departments take advantage of the new technology.
