On Monday, fallen Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen was laid to rest and now the community is searching for a way to honor and commemorate the slain hero.

Citizens have voiced their opinions via social media about the possibility of naming a building or a road after Officer McKeithen.

Proposals that are gaining support include the new Biloxi walkway that runs over Highway 90 near the Small Craft Harbor, the Woolmarket Library, or a section of Old Highway 67 near where McKeithen used to live.

Two days ago a change.org petition was started with the mission of naming Woolmarket Library after Robert McKeithen and it already has over 2,000 signatures. Ward 7 City Councilman Nathan Barrett said, “Several council people have talked about it and we are going to make it an effort to name something after him. We have looked at some roads, maybe a park, possibily the new city center out there in Woolmarket which is on Kaylee Cove, but we are going to make an effort to name something in memory of him and the community that he lived in.”

Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich said, “We are looking at things. I think certainly his life deserves some recognition and we are examining a lot of opportunities to honor his memory.”
