Significant River Flooding Likely in Parts of South Mississippi

Rivers are beginning to rise following extremely high rain totals over the past 24 hours. The main rivers of concern are the Biloxi and Wolf Rivers.

WOLF RIVER: The river is expected to climb to MODERATE flood stage Monday night. The river is expected to crest Tuesday morning at 13.5 feet. This is just 1.5 feet short of major flood stage.

Here is a detailed look at what floods during the different stages of the river.

16.5 ft Flood of Record occurred on September 1, 2012. Major flooding will occur with homes and businesses along the river inundated. Sections of major roadways will be flooded, including MS Highway 1101/Menge Ave., Bells Ferry Rd., Red Creek Rd., and Freddie Frank Rd, among others.
15 ft Major flooding of the area will occur. Several homes on Magnolia Drive will be flooded along with business structures along Menge Avenue. The Menge Avenue bridge will be under water. Water will be in several homes along the river near the Bells Ferry Road bridge. Bells Ferry Road will be closed within a mile of the bridge as the road will be covered by swift moving river current.
12 ft Water will be in several homes along the river near the Bells Ferry Road bridge. Bells Ferry Road will be closed within a mile of the bridge as the road will be covered by swift moving river current.
10 ft Bells Ferry Road will be closed within a mile of the bridge as the road will be covered by swift moving river current.
9 ft Bells Ferry Road will be impassable with deep water on the east bridge approach.
8 ft Bells Ferry Road will begin to flood. There will be water over the access road just upstream of the bridge and the road will become impassable very quickly.

 

BILOXI RIVER: The river is expected to climb to MAJOR FLOOD STAGE (18 ft) Sunday night. The river is expected to crest Monday morning at 19.5 feet. This is near record flooding. Take action now to protect life and property.



Here is a detailed look at what floods during the different stages of the river.

20.95 ft Flood of Record occurred on May 10, 1995. Major flooding will occur along the river. Several bridges and roads may be washed out. Evacuation of Biloxi River Estates, Retreat Village, Oakridge Manor, Rolling Acres, and Riverland Village is strongly recommended. Sections of MS Highway 605 will be impassable.
17 ft There will be major flooding on Loraine Road near the Lorraine Road bridge. Major roads will be closed including Lamey Bridge Road and Old Highway 49 at the Little Biloxi River. Major flooding will occur in Retreat and Riverland Village Subdivisions.
16 ft Major flooding will occur in Retreat and Riverland Village Subdivisions at the 16 foot stage. Homes on lower Fisherman Trail will remain flooded and lower River Road will be impassable.
14 ft At 14 feet homes on lower Fisherman Trail will begin to flood and lower River Road will be impassable. Driving on Loraine Road will be hazardous due to the high water.
13 ft Loraine Road will begin to flood at 13 feet making driving hazardous. River Road near Three Rivers Road bridge will begin to flood.
12 ft River Road near Three Rivers Road bridge will begin to flood.
9 ft The river will be bankfull at the Three Rivers Road bridge.
