Back in February, St. Martin made history with its 2019 spring signing day class as 14 student-athletes put pen to paper to play their respective sports at the next level. Today, the Yellowjackets added two more to that list.
This afternoon, boys basketball up-and-comer Jayden Drummond as well as softball standout Savanah Harris, both signed JUCO national letters of intent.
Drummond is heading up to Meridian Community College while Harris is going off to Tallahassee CC.
At 6’7”, Drummond has all the potential in the world with plenty of room to build on his five plus points per game average as a senior.
As for Harris, she can play anything from centerfield to shortstop and even catcher. “It’s overwhelming. My classmates, they supported me through it all. They were like you’re going to sign, you’re going to play college basketball and they really were helpful. Brandon Cunningham, he helped me through it all. That’s my dog right there. I owe them everything because they took a chance on me when nobody else would, so I’m going to give them my 100 percent all,” said Drummond.
Harris said, “It means a lot. It was just a long road getting here, ups and downs. But I traveled pretty far trying to pick up all these offers so that I’d have options to choose from when I got to college, and I was just so excited to sign today.”
Harris leads her Lady Yellowjackets in batting average and hits. Drummond was just one of three seniors that led St. Martin to an overall record of 20-8 in 2019.
