The University of Southern Mississippi’s Gulf Park campus held a seminar tonight on cyber security.
Major Jason Hillman, a cyber strategist at the U.S. Army Cyber Institute at West Point, was the main speaker. His main speaking points were educating the public on cyber threats while offering ideas for prevention and possible solutions.
There was also a question and answer portion for all in attendance. One question that sparked the audience’s attention was about how the government can protect citizen’s online information.
He point out this is still a process for legislation. “There is a lot of good legislation that is being proposed. One example is California that is leading the way, but the domain is so new the laws are still being written. It just takes a long time for our legislative process to catch up.”
