Right now we are in the midst of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history and thousands of U.S. Coast guard members are preparing to miss their first paycheck today.

To make this time without pay a little bit easier, two local charities are teaming up to make sure no one goes hungry during this time.

Kings Second Chance and All-American Nonprofit are hosting a canned food drive and household item drive to help out members of the U.S. Coast Guard and their families. Kings Second Chance Founder Jacko Angel said, “Dry canned goods, nonperishable items, household goods, laundry detergent, anything that someone who has gone 45 days or will go 45 days without any type of payment may need to survive on. What we have here is when I was in the military, we also had a shutdown and it was nowhere near as long, but it messes up people.”

If you would like to donate canned foods or household goods, drop off items at three different Tractor Supply Stores on the Coast: Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, and Ocean Springs.
