2018 State of the District Address
State Representative Jeramey Anderson gave his fifth State of the District Address at Magnolia Junior High School in Moss Point.
Moss Point native and State Representative Jeramey Anderson had a variety of points to get across at this year’s State of the District address. He discussed the $350,000 tideland fund regarding Moss Point and Pascagoula and improving the education system. “Making sure that we are fully funding education and making it a priority in the state. That will help solve some of these problems that we have in the state.”
Anderson also made a point to get serious about the state’s infrastructure. “We put a bandage on it during the special session. It’s not a fix all, it is a start, but it’s not going to get us where we need to be to really talk about improving the state’s infrastructure.”
Minimum wage was another topic during the speech. Anderson spoke about the House request to increase the wage from $7.25 to $9 to be financially stable in the state of Mississippi. “$7.25 for minimum wage is unacceptable in 2018 going into 2019. I have proposed this bill for two years now. I am going to do it again next session because I value our work force.”
Running for congress opened Anderson’s eyes in regards to voting rights and the importance of the youth vote. He plans to host a summit to address voting solutions for college students. “As college students it is hard to participate in the process. We got to get rid of those barriers. Having a precinct on campus I think is going to be pivotal to being more active in participating in the process.”
