2016 C Spire Conerly Trophy Goes to…
With Dak Prescott now in the NFL, the 2016 C Spire Conerly Trophy had to go to somebody else. Tonight, the ten nominees were narrowed down to four finalists and eventually one winner.
The award goes to Evan Engram, senior tight end from Ole Miss. Engram is the first player at his position to ever win the award. That ends a three year streak of MSU players taking home the hardware, Prescott being just the second player to ever win it twice.
Engram is the fifth Rebel to be named the Best College Football player in the Magnolia State and he’s certainly a worthy recipient of that 21st Conerly Trophy. He led Ole Miss in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Engram beat out Fred Ross from Mississippi State, Ito Smith from Southern Miss, and Javancy Jones from Jackson State for the trophy.
