2015 Senior Summer Barbecue at Jones Park

Local senior citizens were able to enjoy today’s great weather at the 2015 Summer Senior Barbecue.
The Boyington Health and Rehabilitation Center and the City of Gulfport teamed up to host a day of food and fun at Jones Park. Hundreds of seniors gathered under the Barksdale Pavilion between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. today.
With the help of over 30 vendors, the Summer Senior Barbecue served over 500 seniors and caretakers. In addition to great barbecue, seniors enjoyed music and played games.
Brittany Dyess, special events manager for the city of Gulfport, said, “The senior population is steadily increasing. People are living longer. So, this allows them to see what is offered in their local community, what organizations have that they can do, since they are probably not working at this age.”
The Boyington Health and Rehabilitation Center was 1 of 6 facilities in the state to receive the “Silver Award” from the Mississippi Health Care Association.
