200 animals adopted from HSSM during ‘Empty the Shelters’ special
The Humane Society of South Mississippi was able to adopt out 200 animals during their ‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption special right before the start of the year.
There are still currently around 300 pets that are in need of a loving family. Many stray animals have been coming to the shelter along with people returning animals they purchased from the shelter.
To help keep animals with families, HSSM has a pet resource department available to help with spay and neuter surgery, vaccines, microchipping, and pet food. HSSM Development Director Katie King said, “We just really encourage everyone to do meet and greets at the shelter. If you do have other pets in your home to first bring them to the shelter. We do meet and greets outside in our play yards, assisted by adoption counselors to make sure that the first interactions go smoothly.”
HSSM’s thrift store reopened today after some renovations and each purchase will help the shelter save a life.
