Pre-legislative town hall held in Gulfport ahead of state legislative sessions
On Thursday evening, District 119 Representative Jeffrey Hulum III, held a pre-legislative session town hall at the family enrichment center in Gulfport.
Hulum talked with constituents about several topics concerning Gulfport and the rest of the state that will be discussed at the upcoming legislative session in Jackson, including Medicaid expansion, teacher pay increases, and the fentanyl crisis.
Nacole James, a Gulfport resident, told us what issues are on her mind as we draw closer to next weeks sessions.
“One would be the reduction of the grocery tax, the other would be the expansion of Medicare and Medicaid. Also, the insurance. Home owner’s insurance is a big deal down here. It’s been going up here on the coast and we are hurricane prone. That’s something that I’m very interested in hearing and speaking on. That maybe they’ll be taking up some of those topics in the next session.”
The 2025 session of the Mississippi legislature begins on Tuesday, January 27th.
WXXV will have coverage from the first day of the session in Jackson.
