18-year-old arrested and charged with possession of a weapon after a felony conviction in Gulfport

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- An 18-year-old in Gulfport has been arrested and charged with one count of possession of a weapon after a felony conviction.
Gulfport PD arrested Demarques Keller after an incident on May 19 at 3:08 a.m. Officers were conducting a traffic stop near Tegarden Road and East Pass Road. Keller was the passenger in the vehicle.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers observed Keller attempting to load an extended magazine into a gun.
When confronted by the officers, Keller initially complied and dropped the gun. After he was ordered out of the car, he ran away. After a brief chase, Keller was captured and additionally charged with resisting arrest and failure to comply.
The gun with an extended magazine was recovered from where Keller had been seated.
Keller stated during an interview that he was currently on probation and had recently been released from prison.
Detectives confirmed that Keller had prior felony convictions for armed robbery and taking possession of a motor vehicle.
Keller was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where he is being held on a $25,000 bond.
