15-Year-old goes into Surgery to Save Left Leg after Dog Attack

Jaxon Ronsonet, the 15-year-old Biloxi boy who was attacked by a pit bull mix last week, has decided he’ll fight to keep his leg from being amputated.
His aunt, Destiny Fontan, who jumped on the dog in attempts to stop the attack, tells News 25 Jaxon is in surgery to save his left leg that took the worst hit. She says the surgery will last into the night.
Fontan says doctors will take a muscle out of his back and put it in his leg. The surgery has a 90 percent chance of working. Jaxon will have to stay in the hospital for at least a two month period to undergo therapy. Even so, doctors do not expect Jaxon to ever walk without help again, a heartbreaking reality for both Jaxon and his family. “Jaxon has always been an active little boy. He’s always wanted to play football. He’s always rode his bike. At this point, looking at his bike, it breaks my heart. I did everything that I could that day and I really hope that he knows that. Just the other day he was telling his mother and father whenever the doctors came in and told him the choices that we have here, all Jaxon said was ‘I want to ride my bike again,’” said Fontan.
Fontan is unable to work now as she travels back and forth from New Orleans to check on Jaxon at Ochsner and to Biloxi to take Bentley, Jaxon’s five-year-old brother, to the doctor as he heals from the attack as well.
Bentley has stitches in his behind and still cannot walk on one of his feet that was cut open from the toe to the ankle.
As insurance may not cover the costs of both boys’ medical bills, the family has set up a GoFundMe account for those wishing to help out.
