12/24 – Brantly’s “Cold” Christmas Eve Forecast

Clear skies and this dry air would normally set the stage for a substantial temperature drop tonight, and that will be the case this evening. Overnight expect temperatures to drop to the lower 30s with wind chills falling into the 20s over most of the area.

Christmas Day will remain quite cold as surface high pressure continues to build into the area. Highs will only reach the upper 40s to lower 50s once again even with sunny skies which will make it one of the colder Christmas in many years. It will feel much nicer however with the lighter winds that are expected. High pressure will then build right over the forecast area Christmas night with skies expected to remain clear or mostly clear with just a few high clouds. This should set the stage for a colder night with some northern areas approaching hard freeze conditions and some southern areas approaching a brief light freeze.

Surface high pressure will remain over the eastern to central Gulf coast region over the weekend. The cold air mass will finally start to modify. Temperatures will remain cool Saturday, but a bit warmer with highs in the mid to upper 50s under mostly sunny skies and fairly light winds. Sunday will see the dry weather and warming trend continue after a cold start to the morning.
