12/24 – Another Foggy Start on Christmas Day
Meteorologist Sam Lucey has a look at your forecast
Dense fog will be the main concern tonight, developing by mid-evening and lingering through the overnight hours. Visibility could drop significantly at times, so plan on slower travel if you’re out late tonight or heading out early on Christmas day. Otherwise, skies stay partly cloudy with mild lows in the mid-50s.
Christmas Day starts off with areas of fog, especially through the late morning, before conditions gradually improve. Once the fog lifts, expect a partly sunny and unseasonably warm afternoon with highs near 70 and light winds — a great setup for holiday plans once the morning haze clears.
The warm pattern continues into Friday and the weekend. Expect partly to mostly sunny skies each day with highs climbing into the low to mid-70s and generally light southwest winds. Nights stay mild, with lows mainly in the upper 50s. Overall, it’s a pleasant stretch for outdoor activities.
Changes arrive late Sunday night as a weak front moves through, bringing a slight chance for showers and gustier winds. Cooler air settles in behind it Monday, with highs dropping into the mid-60s, followed by a more noticeable chill Monday night.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, winter makes a brief appearance. Clear skies and north winds will allow temperatures to dip to near or below freezing at night, leading to widespread frost both mornings. Daytime highs stay cooler but sunny, generally in the low to mid-50s, before a gradual warming trend begins again midweek.
