11/25 – Brantly’s “Cold Front Moving Through” Thursday Night Forecast

During the day Friday, high pressure will begin building into the region as the cold front shifts out over the western Atlantic. Northerly wind flow at the surface will usher in cool, dry air, causing clouds to gradually diminish in coverage during the day. Friday will also be rather breezy given a tight pressure gradient with the high building in and the front moving out. The cold air moving in will also keep temperatures much cooler than today, with highs only reaching into the low 50s inland with low 60s at the beaches.

A cold dome of surface high pressure will build across the north central Gulf Coast region on Friday night. Much colder temperatures are anticipated with this feature building across the area and many areas along and north of I-10 will likely approach or drop below the freezing mark for a few hours late Friday night into early Saturday morning. There is still some question on how much high cloud cover will spread over the area and what impact this may have on temperatures, but there has been enough consistency in the models to include a Freeze Watch for portions of southeast Mississippi and southwest and south central Alabama where a widespread freeze has not yet occurred this season. Lows range as low as 29-32 degrees north of I-10 to the mid 30s to lower 40s along the immediate coast and beaches. Dry zonal flow aloft continues into Saturday with highs only reaching in the lower to mid 60s.

The next shortwave trough will push across the north central Gulf Coast region late Saturday night into Sunday and enough moisture will be available with this system to support a low chance of light rain, mainly across western and southern portions of our forecast area from late Saturday night into Sunday afternoon. Drier air returns in the wake of the passing system with a reinforcing surface ridge of high pressure building into the area. Skies will clear with dry conditions on Sunday night. Low temperatures on Saturday night are expected to range from the lower to mid 40s inland to the upper 40s to low 50s along the immediate coast. Highs Sunday generally range between 60-65 degrees across the region. Lows Sunday night will trend a bit cooler, ranging in the mid 30s to around 40 degrees inland and in the lower to upper 40s along the coast.
