10,000-pound food drive at Pentecostal of the Gulf Coast
Hundreds of South Mississippi residents received groceries from a local church while others went home empty handed, however, this isn’t the only food drive happening this month.
Pentecostal of the Gulf Coast Church partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide groceries to over 400 guests.
Cars were lining up as early as 6 a.m. to get there hands on fresh produce like watermelon, squash, and other fruits and vegetables.
Pentecostal of the Gulf Coast Church was also giving away eight-pound bags of chicken and a box of catfish, depending on the guests preference.
Although the food drive was slated to begin at noon, it started two hours earlier, leaving many guests without the opportunity of going home with food. Tammy Rainey said, “We got the food today at probably right at 10 and we had all those people served and out of the parking lot over and out before 11 and it was gut wrenching to see so many people drive away, so many people crying. I’m sorry for that.”
Rainey says the next big food drive will be in ten days, September 25th and hopes the next go around that everyone will leave the church with something.
