10/9 – Trey Tonnessen’s “Mellow Here” Wednesday Night Forecast
Meteorologist Trey Tonnessen
Category 5 Hurricane Milton is located just west of the Florida Keys. Milton is expected to continue to move northeast, picking up forward speed, impacting the Florida Peninsula later tonight as a major hurricane. From the 4am NHC discussion – “Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of the west coast of Florida, where a Hurricane Warning is in effect. Milton is forecast to remain a hurricane while it crosses the Florida Peninsula and life-threatening hurricane-force winds, especially in gusts, are expected to spread inland across the peninsula. Preparations to protect life and property, including being ready for long-duration power outages, should be rushed to completion.” Milton is not expected to cause any direct land impacts to the local area of southeast LA or southern MS, but some high waves/winds will be possible over marine areas along with minor coastal flooding for east-facing shorelines.
