08/29 – Steve’s Midday Forecast and Tropical Update
Tropical Depression Nine is in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, centered off of the northern coast of Cuba. While we’re always vigilant with any sort of tropical system in the Gulf, this one doesn’t appear to be on its way here.
Rather, with the assistance of high pressure building over the southeast, the official forecast bends Nine back towards the Big Bend of Florida by Thursday, as inconceivable as it sounds.
In the meantime, expect only spotty shower and thunderstorm activity in the area for the majority of the week. The normal afternoon and evening showers and storms will also be noticeably absent midweek. The weekend will see a return to those with the addition of more deep moisture in place, which should bring greater rain chances to the area.
