01/05 – Brantly’s “Mild Monday” Sunday Night Forecast

The clear skies and dry conditions will continue across our forecast area tonight through Monday afternoon.

With the drier air that has mixed down to the surface throughout the day, no fog is forecast for tonight, but there could be a few patches in low lying areas.

Low temperatures tonight will be near to slightly above normal, ranging from 35 to 40 degrees most locations, with the exception of 40 to 45 degrees at the beaches. With plenty of sunshine on Monday, high temperatures will be 7 to 11 degrees above normal, ranging from 67 to 71 degrees inland areas, with the exception of mid 60s at the beaches.

Winds will stay out of the west on Monday and Tuesday, resulting in very little moisture return ahead of the approaching cold front. The front will push across much of the area in the pre-dawn hours on Tuesday. Chances for rain remain low (less than 20%) as the front passes over the area on Tuesday. Temperatures overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday will plunge into the 30s for inland communities with mid to low 40s along the coastline.

Moisture will begin to filter back into the area and rain chances will steadily start to increase through the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday.

An area of low pressure will likely form in the Southern Plains on Friday and then quickly move northeast, dragging a cold front through the area Saturday through Saturday evening.

Ahead of this front, there remains the potential for strong to severe storms late Friday night into Saturday. The Storm Prediction Center has included the South Mississippi area in the Day 7 Severe Weather Outlook, which adds confidence to the potential for strong to severe storms in the region overnight Friday into Saturday ahead of the front. We will continue to monitor this system as the weekend gets closer.
