Rapiscan Systems Classic returning for 2022 at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier
After two years away from the links due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Rapiscan Systems Classic is finally back for 2022, new home and all.
Today, tournament officials announced the return of the PGA Tour Champions event for the spring of next year.
The three-day event will take place at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier for the very first time after being held at Fallen Oak ever since its inception in 2010.
Grand Bear was designed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Jack Nicklaus and was rated Mississippi’s second-best course by golf advisor in 2019 and 10th best course layout in the entire country. Rapiscan Systems Classic Tournament Director Stephen Schoettmer said, “The guys are looking forward to it I know. It’ll be able to, frankly, showcase the riches we have down here. I mean we have so many golf tournaments – or, excuse me – golf courses, rather. I heard someone mention it the other day, the Mississippi Golf Coast, and that’s Golf with an ‘O’ and so to me, it’s something we should probably bring back because we maybe sometimes don’t stop and think about all the embarrassment of riches as far as the courses go down here, so it lets us showcase another one of the premier courses that we have here in Coastal Mississippi.”
The Rapiscan Systems Classic Tournament Week will run March 28th through April 3rd featuring 78 golfers.
