Mississippi Aquarium hosting beach cleanup in honor of World Ocean Day

World Ocean Day is June 8th and the Mississippi Aquarium is hosting a beach cleanup in honor of the day.

This Saturday, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on the Harrison County Sand Beach east of Jones Park. All are welcomed to come out and volunteer.

They will be picking up litter heading east from Jones Park to Hewes Avenue.

Mississippi State is partnering with the aquarium for the event and giving them supplies needed. Jeff Clark with the Mississippi Aquarium said, “We are doing this because June 8th is World Ocean Day. We are an aquarium and our oceans are very important to us. This is just one of the things we wanted to do to try to support that.”

The aquarium is also extending their hours for the summer. They are now open until 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
