Harrison County School District summer meal program begins
At nine schools across Harrison County today, families and kids stopped by for the first day of the district’s summer meal program.
The program runs on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. through July 30th except July 2nd through the 6th.
These grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meals are free for children 18 and under and adults can purchase two meals for $5.
Child Nutrition Specialists at Bel-Aire Elementary in Gulfport say the menu features a wide variety of home-cooked meals for kids to enjoy while providing an important service to the community. Bel-Aire Elementary Cafeteria Manager Tammy Marion said, “Just to continue those good eating habits, throughout the summer, instead of maybe grabbing a frozen pizza or chicken nuggets every day, you know. They get a good, balanced meal.”
