Mississippi has hit a record number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19 and medical professionals on the Coast are urging folks to continue their safety measures as the holiday season continues.
In a tweet today, State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says 1,008 COVID-19 patients are now hospitalized across the state.
Over here on the Coast, Dr. Randy Roth with Singing River Health System says the system is currently caring for just over 30 COVID patients with 11 in the ICU and around six or seven on ventilators.
While they continue to fare well in caring for patients right now, Dr. Roth says people with pre-existing conditions should especially remain careful as we head towards Christmas. “If you have comorbid conditions like obesity, diabetes, kidney disease, I would limit your shopping and holiday gatherings especially. Those are the people who are getting sick and you know 60 percent of the folks that we’re seeing that are dying from this disease have one of those comorbid.”
Dr. Roth also encourages people to get their flu shots this year and to be on the lookout for new coronavirus treatments on the horizon.
