Mississippi Highway Patrol is beginning its 2020 holiday travel enforcement period today.
MHP is looking to crack down on reckless driving while combating speeding and distracted driving issues.
Starting earlier this morning and ending Sunday at midnight, state troopers will be used on all state, federal, and interstate systems.
Safety checkpoints will be conducted throughout the enforcement period to also enforce child restrain and seatbelt laws while troopers remain vigilant to remove any impaired drivers.
Last year, the highway patrol investigated 185 crashes with 10 fatalities and made 95 DUI arrests over the Thanksgiving holiday. Troop K Public Affairs Officer Calvin Robertson said, “We just want motorists to be aware of their surroundings, be sure you obey your speed limits, wear your seatbelts, never drive impaired. So, we just want people to make it home safe for the holidays.”
Trooper Cal Robertson reminds Mississippi travelers that you can expect to see an increased presence of troopers this week in every corner of the state.
