Teachers and staff at D’Iberville Elementary were decked out in blue this afternoon after receiving one of the highest awards a school can earn.
The school held a celebration event in recognition of their 2020 National Blue Ribbon Award and was recognized with a proclamation by the City of D’Iberville and a letter from President Donald Trump.
Blue Ribbon Awards are given out by the U.S. Department of Education and D’Iberville Elementary was selected as a recipient this year based on its progress on improving academic achievement among student sub-groups.
Teachers say this high honor is a result of positive collaboration with the school community. Third Grade Teacher Lindsey Byerley said, “It’s from kindergarten to first grade, second grade, third grade teachers, students. Everyone at this school helps make the difference and helped us become a Blue Ribbon school.”
This marks the second time the school has received the award. They were recognized with a Blue Ribbon in 2009 for high performance marks on state assessments and tests.
