An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in Gulfport earlier this afternoon.
Gulfport police responded to the Dollar Tree off 25th Avenue in Downtown Gulfport just before 3 p.m. to a report of a man abusing an animal and acting irate.
When two white officers approached the white male suspect, he pointed a firearm towards them, and the two officers subsequently fired their weapons at the man.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and his condition remains unknown.
Gulfport Police Chief Chris Ryle says multiple agencies will be involved in the investigation of this incident. “The MBI, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Harrison County District Attorney’s Office will be investigating the case with the assistance of Biloxi Police Department Crime Scene.”
