Tomorrow is National Black Women’s Equal Pay Day and the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable organization is holding events all week in support of the day.
Several activities will include a virtual town hall meeting tonight at 6:30, a virtual coffee con and midday social media storm on Thursday, and also an online documentary film screening this Friday.
With Mississippi having the highest poverty rate for women in the country and being the only state in the U.S. to not have an equal pay law, the organization wants to encourage the pay gap conversation. Mississippi BWR Director of Community Pamela Berry Johnson said, “Part of it starts with just acknowledging that there is some information that you may not have. Talking about it, asking questions, and then share our message and help other people understand that this is an issue that needs to be addressed.”
