It has been nearly five months since the COVID-19 shutdown began in March. While many of us have been able to get back to some kind of normalcy, the residents of the Pillars are still in quarantine.
Residents have had little to no contact with the outside world, often only seeing loved ones during scheduled window visits where they can only wave to one another.
In hopes of brightening residents’ days, the Pillars has started a pen pal program. Pictures of residents, along with lists of some of their favorite things, are posted on the Pillars’ Facebook page daily. The Pillars Community Relations Liaison Courtney Williams said, “They are allowed to congregate in small groups, so we’ll do Bingo and, you know, paint nails with the females and do fun things, but it’s just a lot different because we can’t get out. They can’t see the outside world, so we’re all they have.”
You can find more information on how to become pen pals with a resident of the Pillars on their Facebook page.
