This morning, the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi commemorated the start of the school year with their annual opening school mass.
Mass was held at 9 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The bishop and many of the priests from the Biloxi Diocese hosted a mass for the faculty and staff of Biloxi Catholic Schools.
Under normal circumstance, this mass has over 450 attendees. However, to limit exposure, only the administration and religion teachers were invited and the mass was livestreamed to every school for the faculty.
The celebration also honored CDC guidelines with a sanitation station, face mask required unless reading and speaking, and pews taped off to ensure parishioners would remain six feet apart. St. Patrick Catholic High Principal Dr. Matt Buckley said, “Our last day on campus was March 13th. Since then we’ve been seeing them virtually and seeing a few on campus through the summer, but we’re definitely excited to welcome them back to school.”
Catholic schools in the Biloxi Diocese will start class on Thursday.
