While this year’s Independence Day celebration is over, let’s not forget about our local veterans.
Quartermaster James Randall said, “If we go through another COVID-19 shutdown we will have to file for bankruptcy.” The VFW Post 4526 is financially struggling after being shut down during the pandemic. Auxiliary President Tami Soria said, “I want every VFW Post to be closed, but for the right reason that we are not necessary but right now we are very necessary.”
For veterans with PTSD, this post is a safe space for them to relax among fellow veterans. “Watching your brother die beside you, having an IED blow up in your face, these are things that are never going to leave them.”
“I’ve had episodes in here. I had this one right here and Jennifer pull me back. I’ve had my issues.”
During the pandemic they used what little savings they had to pay for the basics, like electricity and water. Now they’re in the negative and need help. “It’s hard to ask for help whenever we’ve given so much, but all of our posts are hurting and now we’re asking the community to help us.”
